Tips For Selling Your Home in 2019

Selling your home is one of those big life events and if you’ve never sold anything as big as a house before, it can be a daunting experience. There’s lots to consider when it comes to selling your home such as figuring out the value of your home, hiring solicitors and conveyancers, and preparing your home to be sold. In the midst of all the chaos you also need to ensure that you’re getting the best price for your house. So, as a little helping hand we’ve put a few house selling tips together so you can secure that all-important sale fast!

It’s time for a clear out!

Nobody likes a messy house, particularly one that they’re thinking of buying. So if you haven’t yet, it’s time to take a look around and declutter anything that might be off putting to potential buyers. Space is a big selling point so the more space you have in your house the better. However, a lot of space can be taken up with unnecessary items which makes a room appear smaller than it actually is. It’s important that this space is made available so buyers can envisage how they will use this space.

Although it’s important to remember that whilst decluttering, you don’t depersonalise your home. Some buyers like to see personality in a home so it’s ok for it to look a bit ‘lived in’ and not clinical, after all they’re buying into a home not just bricks and mortar.

Redecorate and update

A declutter and a clean is a great starting point, but if you really want to impress buyers and increase the value of your home, you should consider redecorating and updating certain rooms in the house.

A lick of paint goes a long way to spruce up the house and give it a fresh, clean look. Go for colours that you think potential buyers might like rather than your own tastes as you won’t be living in it for long anyway. Light, bright colours will make rooms appear airy, light and most importantly, spacious. A blank canvas is more appealing to buyers who want to move in straight away and not worry about decorating.

If you want to add value to your home it’s a good idea to update and renovate the most important rooms in a house. The kitchen in particular is a room where a lot of time is spent and a room that you should invest in. Modernise the kitchen with contemporary cabinets and worktops, although this can be expensive it will certainly put more money in your pocket in the long run.

Make the most of your outdoor space

When buying a house you’re also buying into the attached outdoor space. Many people take pride in their gardens and look for similar qualities in the outdoor space as they do in the interior. This means keeping your garden in a neat and tidy condition to show the buyer that the garden has been cared for and that there is no extra work needed in this area. An overgrown garden is certainly an off put for potential buyers so plant some plants, mow the lawn and add table and chairs for a homely feel.
